Our Occupational Therapists 

Occupational Therapist:    Laura Bulk

  Laura joined the Sahara Rehab team in 2014 with the goal of enhancing the lives of individuals in her community. 

With her Bachelor of Social Work from the University of Victoria, and Master of Occupational Therapy from the University of British Columbia, Laura is equipped with a variety of skills to work with a range of individuals and organizations. She is passionate about promoting equal opportunities for persons with disabilities and evidence-based practice, and therefore she is currently pursuing a PhD in Rehabilitation Sciences at UBC with a focus on policy-change.

Laura is a dedicated volunteer with many local organizations, and in her spare time enjoys spending time with friends and family, walking, baking, and painting.

Occupational Therapist:     Jennifer Woo


  Jennifer joined the Sahara Rehab team in 2016 with the aim of enhancing function and independence in an individual’s daily life. She has been practicing Occupational Therapy since 2013.

She graduated with a Master’s of Science in Occupational Therapy from the University of Toronto and a Bachelor of Human Kinetics in Kinesiology and Health Sciences from the University of British Columbia. Her experience in Occupational Therapy includes conducting functional, cognitive, perceptual, motor and visual assessment/treatment, wheelchair seating, splinting and discharge planning from acute care to the community. Jennifer has some basic understanding of Cantonese.

In her spare time, she enjoys playing/watching sports, trying new restaurants, watching movies, reading and travelling as well as spending time with family and friends.

Occupational Therapist:     Kirsten Oldale




 
Kirsten obtained her Master of Occupational Therapy degree from the University of British Columbia in 2012. She is a practicing Occupational Therapist with Fraser Health and has worked in a variety of settings within Fraser Health, including acute care, transitional care and community home health.  Her scope of practice in Occupational Therapy includes functional, mobility and cognitive assessments, home safety assessments, task and environmental modification, wheelchair, gait aide and seating assessments, power mobility assessments, pressure ulcer management, and community case management.  

Kirsten has a passion for music and has a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. While studying, she taught piano, provided administrative support at outpatient depression & psychosis programs, and volunteered for residential care and mental health inpatient groups at UBC hospital. During her spare time, she enjoys spending time with friends and family, playing music, traveling, painting, and exercising.
Occupational Therapist:     Holly Tang

 

Holly joined the Sahara Rehab Team in 2016 with the desire to enable individuals to lead meaningful lives in their own communities.

She graduated with a Master’s of Science of Occupational Therapy from Queen’s University and Bachelor of Science in Biology and Linguistics from University of Toronto. She has been a practicing therapist with close to 10 years’ experience with special interest in stroke rehab, cognitive therapy and low vision. 

Her leisure activities include knitting, and yoga, but mostly enjoy spending time with her family. She is also fluent in Cantonese and conversational Mandarin.   


Occupational Therapist:    Lena Khoshbin

 
Lena completed her Bachelor of Sciences (BSc) and subsequently Master of Occupational Therapy at University of British Columbia. She is interested in working at Sahara Rehabilitation in additional to working in hospital settings. Her goal is to provide compassionate and professional care for the public. 

Lena remains involved in mentoring Occupational Therapy students in clinical setting and participate in continuing education courses to maintain a firm connection with the public and rehabilitation community. She is interested in all aspects of Occupational Therapy, enabling individuals to partake in all aspects of their life. 

In her spare time, Lena enjoys hiking, reading, and spending time with family and friends. She is fluent in Farsi.


Occupational Therapist:    Kevin Campbell

 

Kevin joined Sahara Rehab in 2017 and has a Bachelors of Human Kinetics in Exercise Science from the University of British Columbia and a Bachelors of Science in Occupational Therapy from the University of Alberta.  He has practiced Occupational Therapy in British Columbia, Alberta, and Ontario in both community and hospital settings.  For the past several years Kevin has enjoyed working with seniors who have developmental disabilities.

Kevin enjoys spending time with family and friends.  He spends most of his free time outdoors and particularly enjoys hiking, skiing, canoeing and backpacking.  Volunteering has been an important part of Kevin's life and an important way for him to give back to the community.  He currently volunteers with Corrections Canada. 


Occupational Therapist:    Francis Chik

 

Francis joined Sahara Rehab team in 2017 with goals of helping people achieve independence and regain function while living in the community.

He received his Bachelors of Kinesiology from the University of British Columbia and completed his Master of Science in Occupational Therapy at Western University. Before working as an occupational therapist, Francis worked as a Kinesiologist providing exercise programs for individuals who experienced physical injuries. Francis’ work experience as an occupational therapist includes working in acute care setting, outpatient rehabilitation (primarily stroke) and  geriatric mental health.

In his spare time, Francis enjoys watching TV, playing sports and the piano. He speaks English fluently and can converse in Cantonese and Mandarin.


Occupational Therapist:    Yi 'Louise' Lu



 

Louise joined the Sahara Rehab Team in 2018 with the goal of helping people regain their daily function so that they can return to living their own meaningful lives.

Louise graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Therapy from the National Taiwan University and has a Master’s of Science degree in Occupational Therapy from the University of Illinois in Chicago. She has 15 years of working experience as an occupational therapist and has been working in various settings, such as, acute care hospitals, inpatient/outpatient rehabilitation clinics, and residential care facilities.

Louise's scope of practice includes functional, mobility and cognitive assessments, home safety assessments, task and environmental modification, wheelchair, gait aide and seating assessments, and community case management. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with family, friends, traveling, and cooking. Louise is fluent in Mandarin 


Occupational Therapist:      Jane Chang 


 

Jane joined the Sahara Rehab team in 2018 with a passion of helping people to regain function and maximize their ability to participate in their daily living.   

Jane graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Therapy from National Taiwan University and MSc. OT degree from Queen’s University in Kingston.  She has been practicing Occupational Therapy in hospital, school and community settings for more than 15 years.  Her experience in Occupational Therapy includes conducting functional/ cognitive assessments and intervention, seating assessment, functional mobility, and assistive equipment.

In her free time she enjoys time with friends and family, and volunteering with non-profit organizations. Jane is also fluent in Mandarin.  

Occupational Therapist:      Joey Fong



 

Joey has spent the past 20 years working in the field of forensic psychiatry.  He holds a Master of Occupational Therapy degree from UBC, a Bachelor of Community Rehabilitation and Disability Studies from the University of Calgary, and a Diploma of Therapeutic Recreation from Douglas College.


His current practice includes assessing and treating clients with significant mental health and medical needs, conducting functional assessments, sensory modulation, complex discharge planning, and working with high-risk clients.  His primary goal is to help clients overcome barriers and improve their overall functional abilities.

 

When not working, you can catch him spending time with his wife and rapidly growing children and playing the great Canadian game of hockey.  Joey can speak French.

Occupational Therapist:      Rishma Dhalla 



Rishma joined Sahara Rehab in June 2018 with the desire to facilitate physical and emotional recovery for those injured in motor vehicle accidents. 

Rishma graduated in Occupational Therapy from the University of British Columbia in 1994. She has worked as an O.T. in acute care, sub-acute, community, residential care, and has for the last 13 years worked in public health with a focus on health promotion and injury/disease prevention. She educates her public health clients in fall prevention and stress management principles. She also has worked with people injured in motor vehicle accidents and is experienced with case management, functional assessments, active rehab and return to work. Rishma believes very strongly that the values of occupational therapy are intrinsically aligned with who she is as a person, which is why she is so grateful to be in this profession.

She can moderately understand Hindi, Gujarati and Kutchi. In her time off, Rishma loves volunteering, spending time with her family, travelling, walking, meditating, and spending time in solitude.


Occupational Therapist:     Erika Manzano



 

Erika joined the Sahara Rehab team in 2018. She attained her Master’s of Science in Occupational Therapy from Queen’s University, and has been practicing occupational therapy since 2016. 


She has worked in a variety of settings across ON and BC such as inpatient and outpatient mental health, community mental health, amputee and COPD rehab, and in the non-profit sector, facilitating therapy groups. Erika has always had a passion for helping others overcome complex barriers in order to discover, rediscover or maintain meaning and purpose in their lives.


Outside of work, Erika enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling, hiking and watching the NBA


Occupational Therapist:     ‘Samuel’ K. Tekasala



 

Samuel joined the Sahara Rehab team in 2018 with the desire to support individuals in regaining their overall function to participate in meaningful activities.

Samuel graduated with a Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy from the University of Manitoba. Since graduation, he has gained experience in pediatrics, neuro rehabilitation, wheelchair seating assessments, cognitive assessment & interventions and home safety assessments. 

In his free time, Samuel enjoys playing soccer, exercising, hiking, biking and playing piano.
 



Occupational Therapist:     Philip Yan



 

Philip has a passion for supporting people in their physical, cognitive, and emotional recovery. He received his Bachelors of Kinesiology prior to completing his Masters of Occupational Therapy at UBC, and joined the Sahara Rehab team in 2018.


As an occupational therapist, he holds experience with both hospital and community settings, working in a wide variety of practice areas such as orthopaedic rehab, acute care, forensic mental health, neuro rehab, and assistive technology. He is fluent in Cantonese and basic Mandarin. 


Outside of work, Philip enjoys spending his time hiking and camping in BC's outdoors, practicing muay thai, and volunteering with the Red Cross; he is currently involved with the Canadian Council for First Aid Education as well as the disaster management program. Philip is also fluent in Cantonese.

  



Occupational Therapist:     Jin 'Vincy' Hu


 

Vincy graduated with a Master of Occupational Therapy from the University of British Columbia and a Master of Science in General Surgery from Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine. With her unique medical training and background, Vincy is equipped with the skills to work with people with complex care needs, and help them maximize their daily function.


Vincy's leisure activities include hiking, traveling, cooking, and spending time with her friends and family. She is fluent in English, Cantonese, and Mandarin; she is also conversational in many other regional Chinese dialects including Shanghai and Hubei.





Our Physiotherapist

Physiotherapist:        Marilyn Araujo



Marilyn received her Bachelor of Physical Therapy in 2005 and a Bachelor in Human Kinetics in 2002 both from the University of British Columbia. She has received her Acupuncture training with the Canadian Acupuncture Foundation Institute and is certified with the Neuro Developmental Treatment Association and PWR certified with Parkinson Wellness and Recovery Organization.  She is also fluent in Spanish


Marilyn strongly believes in working with a team to help patients get back to functional independence. She is a strong believer in continuing education and has been active in taking courses to further her knowledge for the last 13 years. This year she was also involved in being a teaching assistant with the Neurology Course for Physiotherapy students at UBC. She has worked in acute hospital and outpatient settings with a current focus with working with individuals coping with neurological conditions such as Stroke, Parkinson’s, ALS and MS. 


When she isn’t running around with her two young boys Marilyn enjoys staying active by exercising and exploring all the lower mainland has to offer in the outdoors. 




Our Kinesiologists 

Kinesiologist &
Aquatic Therapist:       Carlee Sturrock


Carlee is a certified and practicing Kinesiologist. She graduated from the University of British Columbia with a Bachelors of Kinesiology and is a member of the British Columbia Association of Kinesiologist (BCAK).  

As a Kinesiologist, Carlee is particularly interested in active rehabilitation including aquatic therapy and fitness programs. She enjoys sharing her knowledge and training with her clients and takes pride in their empowerment. She currently serves in the capacity of supervisor of Kinesiologist's at Sahara Rehab by supporting all active rehabilitation programs as needed.

When not working with clients, Carlee enjoys hiking, yoga, swimming and dance. 


Kinesiologist:               Belle Lao


Belle is excited to join the Sahara Rehab team as a practicing Kinesiologist.  She graduated from Simon Fraser University with a Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology and is a member of the British Columbia Association of Kinesiologist (BCAK).  

Belle loves sports and is a certified Personal Trainer. She is passionate about helping her clients to reach their personal rehabilitation goals, and provides support to help them live a healthier life through exercise.

She is fluent in Cantonese and conversational Mandarin. During her spare time, she enjoys playing volleyball, watching movies, and taking landscape and food photography

Kinesiologist:               Candice Chen


Candice graduated from Simon Fraser University with a Bachelor of Science degree (BSc) in Kinesiology and a specialization in Active Health and Rehabilitation. She also has the certifications in Health and Fitness Studies, Occupational Ergonomics, BC sports Aids and Functional Movement Screening.

Professionally, Candice is passionate about assisting people to optimize their potentials through physical activity and active rehabilitation. Personally, Candice lives a healthy lifestyle and enjoys hiking, biking, snowboarding, traveling and watching sports with friends. She also devotes herself into volunteering for Special Olympics BC to empower children to live healthily through physical activities.

In addition to English, Candice also speaks Cantonese and Mandarin.


Kinesiologist:               
Antonio D'Archangelo



   

Antonio is a certified and practicing Kinesiologist who graduated from the University of the Fraser Valley. He is currently a member in good standing with the British Columbia Association of Kinesiologists and with the Canadian Society of Exercise Physiology as a Certified Personal Trainer.

Antonio found his passion for health and fitness from his extensive sport history. He has played soccer for the majority of his life at a competitive level, while also participating in other sports such as traditional karate, rugby, and kayaking to name a few.

Outside of his kinesiology work, Antonio is a staff S.A.Q. (speed, agility and quickness) and Goalkeeper Coach with Chilliwack FC and is an active member of the Chilliwack Search and Rescue Team


Kinesiologist:              

Michael Bustamente




Michael graduated from Simon Fraser University in 2015 with a Bachelors degree in Kinesiology, specializing in active health and rehabilitation. He also has a certificate in health and fitness studies. Michael is a member of the British Columbia Association of Kinesiologists. 

His experience revolves around his passion for helping an individual achieve overall wellness and reach his or her potential. With Fraser Health, Michael played a role in implementing a pilot active health and group therapy program within the mental health and substance use unit. There, he led a community program which involved fitness program design and education. Additionally, while at the marine company Seaspan ULC, Michael gained experience in ergonomics and the role it plays in preventing workplace injuries and in maintaining health and wellness.

In his spare time Michael volunteers with the Burnaby Special Olympics as a group fitness trainer and floor hockey coach. He is an avid learner and is fascinated by psychology, sociology, and Eastern philosophical and meditative practices. Michael firmly believes that true wellness comes from the body, mind, and soul

Kinesiologist:              
Jaewon Suh



 
Before Jaewon received his Kinesiology degree in 2011’ from Simon Fraser University, he volunteered as a medical assistant in hospitals overseas working with leper patients. Soon after graduation, he recognized his need to cast his passions of helping people through community-based active rehab.  

Through active rehab, he upholds his belief that ‘exercise is medicine’.  He is particularly interested in active rehabilitation including postural training, aquatherapy, and manual therapy such as myofascial release. 

Jaewon is fluent in Korean. During his spare time, he enjoys fitness, dance, and learning martial arts.

Kinesiologist:              Kia Taeb



 
Kia Graduated From University of British Columbia in 2013 with a Bachelor in Kinesiology and is currently registered with (BACK) British Columbia Association of Kinesiology. 

He enjoys assisting individuals enhance their lives via exercise to help them physically, mentally and emotionally surpass any limitations they might be facing. The journey from injury to a fully active life-style is something he experienced personally, which only increased his desire to help people exceed their boundaries and return to a lifestyle and a routine that improves their overall wellbeing. 

Kia has experience working and volunteering in fast-paced physiotherapy environment's, at the UBC hospital, as well as in gyms as a personal trainer/kinesiologist. He loves to hike, play soccer and in fact has been coaching an adult men’s soccer team at UBC for the past 6 years. 

Kinesiologist:              Jeffrey Lee



  Jeffrey graduated from Simon Fraser University in 2016 with a Bachelor degree in Kinesiology, specializing in active health and rehabilitation. He currently is a member in good standing with the British Columbia Association of Kinesiologist (BCAK) with certification in health and fitness studies. 

Upon graduation, Jeff began working as a rehabilitation assistant and community support worker which allowed him to gain invaluable experience working with people with brain injury. He has a passion to further pursuing an active and healthy lifestyle while knowing the risk and limitation of injury

Outside of work, Jeff is an avid badminton player and enjoys hiking, swimming, cooking, and photography.

In addition to English, Jeffrey is fluent in Mandarin
